?Runners Claim Huge Win Over San Diego State, 73?62

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The CSUB women's basketball team claimed a 73–62 win over San Diego State, a NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen participant a year ago, at the Viejas Arena on Wednesday night.

The Roadrunners trailed just once through the first half, going on a 10–point run beginning minutes after San Diego State got on the board first with a set of free–throws. Senior guard Britney McGee (Bakersfield, Calif./Univ. of Albany) scored 10 of the first 12 'Runner points, including two from behind the arc. San Diego State managed to cut the 'Runners lead down thanks to a string of free-throws, as nine of the Aztecs 30 first half points came from the line. CSUB benefited from San Diego State's 13 turnovers to take a three–point lead into halftime (33–30).

The second half was much closer, as the Roadrunners and Aztecs exchanged three lead-changes throughout the first 16 minutes. The Roadrunners offense exploded in the final minutes, increasing their lead to 10 with three minutes to go in the game. The Aztecs tried to rally in the last minute however CSUB held strong, securing the win in its first road game of the season.

McGee finished the game with 20 points –a career–high in a Roadrunner uniform– including four from behind the arc.

Senior forward Tamiko Davis (Sacramento, Calif./San Jose State) earned her first double–double of the season, grabbing 10 rebounds and as scoring many points while sophomore guard Amber Williams  (Fontana, Calif./Etiwanda HS) finished the night with 12 points.

Head coach Tim La Kose was pleased with the Roadrunners result over the Aztecs, who made it to the Sweet Sixteen in last year's NCAA Tournament.

“This was a huge stepping stone for our team,” La Kose said. “We had a strong start to the season at home and to come up here and beat a team of San Diego State's caliber is huge for us. Now we need to continue to prove we can play with the teams at this level.”

The Roadrunners return home to the Icardo Center on Tuesday, November 23, as they host Santa Clara, of the West Coast Conference. Tip- off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
