FRESNO, Calif. — Despite jumping to a 10–point first–half lead, the CSUB women's basketball team fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs, 64–54, Saturday evening at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.
A Phynique Allen (San Diego, Calif./Eastern Washington) layup gave CSUB an early 16–6 advantage in the first half. But the Bulldogs responded with a 13–5 run to pull ahead, 21–19. With just over a minute remaining in the half, Allen again connected to give the Roadrunners a two–point halftime advantage, 27–25.
Senior Kelley Tarver (Valencia HS) opened the second half with a three pointer to give the Roadrunners a 30–25 lead. But an 8–1 Bulldog run left CSUB down, 33–31. After the game was tied at 33–33, Fresno State would score 13 of the next 15 points to extend its advantage to 46–35. The Roadrunners scored 11 of the game's final 18 points.
Allen had a game–high 17 points and seven steals as she played all 40 minutes for the Roadrunners. Junior Nikki Leon (Canyon Country HS) came off the bench to score 10 points. Senior Katie Williams (Las Vegas, Nev./Reedley College) battled foul trouble the entire evening and finished with nine points in 29 minutes of action. Junior Tamiko Davis (Sacramento/San Jose State) had a game–high 12 rebounds.
The win moves the Bulldogs to 9–5 while the Roadrunners drop to 7–8 on the year and are now 0–3 all–time against Fresno State.
