STOCKTON, Calif. — Senior Katie Williams (Las Vegas/Reedley College) and junior Tamiko Davis (Sacramento, Calif./San Jose State) each recorded double–doubles Wednesday as the CSUB women's basketball team defeated the University of the Pacific Tigers, 76–63, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Williams scored 14 points and tied a career best with 13 rebounds. She came within two steals of recording a triple–double with eight swipes on the evening. Davis had 12 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Senior Phynique Allen had a game–high 19 points. As a team, the Roadrunners had their strongest performance of the year from the charity stripe, hitting 17 or their 19 free–throws (89.5 percent). Allen tied a career–best with nine (of 10) makes. Senior Tiffany Belt (Bakersfield, Calif./West HS) scored 13 points in her first start since Dec. 20.
The Roadrunners outrebounded the Tigers, 48–38, and forced 23 turnovers. In every game this season, CSUB has held a positive turnover margin and in all but one contest, have forced at least 20 opponent miscues. The three–point shooting was just a bit off tonight for the 'Runners, connecting just three times, a season–low.
CSUB never trailed in the contest and started early, building an early lead of 11 points, 13–2, minutes into the contest. Late in the half, the Roadrunners secured a 10 point lead before Pacific's Erica McKenzie hit a three pointer. CSUB led, 35–28 at the break. Davis had eight rebounds and six points in the first half while Katie Williams scored seven points.
In the second half, the Roadrunners pushed the lead back out to 10 points, 42–32, with 15:51 remaining. Pacific would pull back to within three, capping an 11–4 run with 12:37 remaining. But CSUB would be too strong down the stretch, building a 19 point advantage, 76–57, with under two minutes to go as Allen knocked down a pair of free throws.
CSUB is now 11–9 on the season while Pacific drops to 3–13.
The Roadrunners' road trip continues on Saturday when CSUB visits Long Beach State at 4 p.m.
