BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Stephanie Donnelly won two individual events, placed second in a third and was the leadoff of the 200 medley relay that nearly topped a solid San Jose State relay in the Roadrunner women's swimming first dual meet of 2010. The Spartans claimed a 160-135 over CSUB, but Head Coach Pat Skehan found much to be pleased about in Sunday's results.
“We opened with a great 200 medley relay race and all day long I was very happy with how we raced up to (San Jose State),” said Skehan. “We are really tired from training nonstop, but this group is in a great position to do something big down the stretch. Being able to race this well, this tired is great.”
Donnelly and teammates Rachel Holm, Michelle Kroll and Brooke Penney took the Spartans' 200 medley relay team to the wire in the meet's opening race. San Jose State finished first in 1:52.54 with the Roadrunners hot on its tail at 1:52.68.
Donnelly then went to work in her individual events, winning the 200 back in 2:10.19, the 100 fly in 1:00.15 and placing a close second in the 100 back in 1:00.73.
Rachel McCall and Rachel Holm also each picked up a win with McCall claiming the 50 free in 24.66 and Holm taking first in the 200 breast in 2:29.51. McCall also had second-place finishes in the 100 breast (1:06.59) and the 100 free (53.77) while Holm was fourth in the 200 IM (2:20.50).
Renee Roy had a season-best time of 11:17.32 in the 1000 free while Sarah Smith did the same in both the 100 back (1:07.53) and the 200 back (2:26.49).
Hannah Yoder and Victoria Kreutz each picked up a win in the springboard diving events. Yoder won the one-meter event with a score of 240.82 while Kreutz held the top score in the three-meter event at 279.15. Both of Yoder's scores, 240.82 in the one-meter and 220.95 in the three-meter, were season highs for the junior.
