Ortiz Named WWPA Player of the Week

LOS ANGELES - Senior Amanda Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) was named the Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week on Wednesday in an announcement by the league office. The No. 15 Roadrunners went 3-1 last weekend at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif. Ortiz is the reigning WWPA Player of the Year.

Ortiz tallied 13 goals in four games over the weekend. The program's all-time leading goal scorer found the back of the net four times against Colorado State and No. 10 Loyola Marymount. She also had a hat trick against Sonoma State on Sunday to go along with five steals and three drawn ejections. Against No. 6 San Jose State, Ortiz had a pair of goals to go along with two assists. She also drew three ejections including a five-meter penalty shot to help CSUB to a 12-11 upset.

CSUB is off this weekend but will return to action for a pair of contests on April 18. The ?Runners will face conference foe Cal State East Bay at noon in Hayward, Calif., before heading to Berkley, Calif., for a 5 p.m. contest against No. 5 Cal.
