LOS ANGELES ? The No. 18 CSUB women's water polo team captured two victories Sunday afternoon at the Loyola Marymount Invitational. The 'Runners beat Priceton, 10-4, in the morning session and then went on to upset No. 11 Cal State Northridge, 5-4, in overtime. The wins move CSUB's record to 13-9 on the season.

CSUB jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and extended the advantage to 6-1 at the break as it handled Princeton in the first game. Amanda Ortiz and Petra Koudelkova each scored three goals for CSUB while Alyson Moss added two. Ortiz scored the first two goals of the game and Koudelkova would add the Roadrunners' next two goals. Veronica Campbell had nine saves in goal.

After falling behind 3-0 to No. 11 Cal State Northridge, CSUB battled back to score three unanswered goals led by Ortiz who scored two game-tying goals in the third and fourth quarters to force overtime. In the first extra session, Alyson Moss scored the only goal the 'Runners would need as the defense held strong with Campbell in net, making 11 saves. Freshman contributions came from Kaitlin Torres who scored the first goal of the game. Becky Seelos had the other CSUB goal. The No. 11 Matadors were the highest ranked team the 'Runners have knocked off this season.

"These were a couple of important wins for us," Head Coach Jason Gall said. "We are playing smarter and we are just hoping to build on this as the season continues. There were some good contributions from everyone today, especially from our freshmen which is very encouraging. We held San Bernardino to just six goals yesterday and today we only allowed four goals during each game. Our defense is playing much better."

The 'Runners will head to Long Beach State to face the 49ers next Sunday at noon.
