LONG BEACH, Calif. — Sophomore Rachel McCall and freshman Louise Westergren swam their way into the finals of the 50 free at the Toshiba Classic Thursday, and also moved their way into the CSUB record book.
In the finals of the 50 free, McCall placed 22nd in 23.94, but it was her 23.82 mark in the preliminaries that move her into fourth place in CSUB's all-time record book. Westergren, meanwhile, placed 25th in 23.93, good for fifth all-time at CSUB.
“We really had an 'A' day,” said Head Coach Pat Skehan. “We were hot all day long and had really good times from top to bottom. It's tough for the team to see the improvement against the quality of competition we faced, but everyone was shaving time off their own best marks.”
Stephanie Donnelly had CSUB's best finish in the 200 IM, swimming a personal best 2:11.22 in the preliminaries, just missing out on reaching the finals. In the 500 free, Renee Roy and Leah Felber recorded season-best marks with times of 5:18.83 and 5:20.71, respectively.
The 200 free relay team of Westergren, Brooke Penney, Felber and McCall was 12th in 1:36.90, just .2 seconds behind UCLA. The 400 medley relay team of Donnelly, McCall, Westergren and Penney closed out the night with a 3:57.15, 14th-place finish.
Friday's events include the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay.
