Roadrunners Sharp in 87?46 Tune?up Victory


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Five members of the CSUB women's basketball team reached double–digit scoring totals Monday evening as the Roadrunners beat the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds, 87–46, in an exhibition contest at the Icardo Center.

The Roadrunners never trailed in the game and built a lead of 46 midway through the second half. CSUB's defense forced 34 Sunbird turnovers and held Fresno Pacific to 17 first–half points.

Senior Katie Williams (Las Vegas, Nev./Reedley College) had a game–high 15 points. Freshman Amber Williams (Fontana, Calif./Etiwanda HS) came off the bench to score 14 points, connecting on 2-of-5 from beyond the arc. Senior Phynique Allen (San Diego, Calif./Eastern Washington) scored 13 points while classmate Tiffany Belt (Bakersfield, Calif./West HS) and junior Tamiko Davis (Sacramento, Calif./San Jose State) each scored 12. Davis also had a game–high nine rebounds.

In her first action since December of last season, senior Kelley Tarver (Valencia HS) scored three points and dished out five assists in 25 minutes of action. She also had four rebounds.

Fresno Pacific was never quite able to get things going offensively. Michele Rebozzi (12) and Jessica Torrecillas (11) reached double figures for the Sunbirds. Jessica Mazza had a team–high six rebounds.

The Roadrunners pulled away late in the first half, going on an 18–2 run. Tarver, Belt and Amber Williams each connected from deep during the five–minute run to give CSUB a comfortable cushion going into halftime, 38–17.

The 2009–10 CSUB women's basketball season officially kicks off on Friday, Nov. 13, against the Montana State Bobcats.
