RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The No. 15 ranked CSUB water polo team fell to the No. 7 ranked Arizona State University Sundevils, 10?7, Saturday in Riverside, Calif. The ?Runners rebounded with an afternoon victory over Cal Baptist, 11?6, to move to 3?1 on the season.

In the first game, The ?Runners and the Sundevils played close as CSUB tied the game 5?5 with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter. ASU, however, would go on to score five consecutive goals to take a commanding 10?5 lead into the game's final three minutes. Junior Alyson Moss and senior Amanda Ortiz each scored but the ?Runners fell, 10?7. Ortiz led the way with a game-high four goals while Moss added two. Jessica Manke had the other CSUB goal while Veronica Campbell had 10 blocks in goal for the ?Runners.

Ortiz continued her strong day against Cal Baptist in the afternoon session, scoring six goals as CSUB jumped out to a 3-0 advantage and never looked back. Cal Baptist would bring the game to within two goals on four different occasions but the ?Runners always seemed to have an answer. With the score 8?6 in favor of CSUB at the end of the third quarter, the ?Runners scored three unanswered in the fourth to put the game away. Moss added three goals while Becky Seelos and Shannon McKenzie each netted one goal. Campbell had 12 blocks for CSUB.

CSUB will take on Concordia?Irvine on Friday, Feb. 6 at noon in Irvine, Calif., before heading to the UC San Diego Invitational on Feb. 7?8.
