Track and Field Teams Head to Fresno to Begin 2009 Campaign

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ?
The CSUB track and field team begins its 2009 indoor season Monday in Fresno, Calif., at the Run for the Dream Invitational at the Save Mart Center. The first event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Results can be found at www.runforthedream.com. Other teams in competition on Monday include: Cal Poly, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State L.A., Cal State Stanislaus, UC Davis, Fresno State and USC.

The ?Runners officially started practice on Oct. 13, 99 days prior to Monday's competition. The team practiced together for the final time before winter break on Nov. 16. Between the last practice and Jan. 5, athletes were given individual workouts to continue their training on their own.

“Our team is excited to get the season started,” Head Coach Allan Collatz explained. ”This meet will give us a feel for how our conditioning is progressing and what things we need to focus on in our training. With the first competition everyone is nervous and everyone wants to see where they are at. Our main goal this week is to stay healthy, to make sure that our athletes that have some minor injuries right now don't compound them and that our healthy athletes stay that way.”

The ?Runners will have a short week of practice after returning from Fresno before heading to their first of three meets in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Northern Arizona Team Challenge.
