BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? Goalkeeper Veronica Campbell recorded 23 blocks and Becky Seelos tallied a team-high five goals as CSUB's women's water polo team closed out action at the Roadrunner Invitational with a 8-6 win over UC Santa Cruz. Earlier Sunday, the Roadrunners fell 10-8 to CSU East Bay.

Bakersfield started hot against the Slugs, building a 5-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the second period. Seelos led the early charge, tallying three goals in that span.

Santa Cruz scored its first goal of the game with one minute remaining in the half and continued to press at the ?Runners, but second-half goals by Jessica Manke, Seelos and Petra Koudelkova and the defensive effort by Campbell kept UCSC at bay.

Against CSU East Bay, Koudelkova netted six goals, but the Pioneers outscored CSUB 6-3 in the second half to hold on for the two-goal win.

The 'Runners rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the score at 5-5 early in the third period. The game then featured three more ties before the Pioneers netted goals at the 3:03 and 2:08 marks of the final period.

Campbell collected 13 saves in three periods of action while C.J. Longeuay had six saves in the one period of work.

The ?Runners, now 6-6 on the season, travel to Riverside on Feb. 29 for a 3 p.m. match-up against Cal Baptist. They continue on to La Jolla Saturday to face UC San Diego and Pomona-Pizter at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
