BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? Petra Koudelkova tallied four goals in each of CSUB's women's water polo games Saturday, helping the Roadrunners to a 10-9 win over Cal Baptist and a 13-1 win over Occidental on the opening day of the Roadrunner Invitational.
The ?Runners opened the day with a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Regals. Down 4-1 after the first period and 5-1 early in the second, Koudelkova helped mount a comeback with a pair of goals in the second period and one each in the third and fourth.
CSUB knotted the score 8-8 on a goal by Katherine Gillett less than a minute into the final period. They took the lead shortly thereafter on Koudelkova's fourth score. Becky Seelos's goal with 2:44 remaining put the ?Runners up two and despite a late goal by Cal Baptists' Corrie Stuursma, CSUB help on for the win.
Gillett added three goals in the game while Seelos finished with two.
Bakersfield opened its match against Occidental by taking a 3-0 lead. The Tigers' Daniel Montenegro broke the shutout with 57 seconds remaining in the opening period. But the ?Runners would go on to score 10 unanswered goals for the big 13-1 victory.
Koudelkova scored three in the first period and added one more in the third. Seelos and freshman Jessica Kelley had three goals apiece while Gillett added two and C.J. Longeuay had one.
The ?Runners continue tournament play Sunday with a 10:15 a.m. match-up against CSU East Bay and a 2:45 p.m. start against UC Santa Cruz.
