PORTLAND, Ore. ? After a respectable start the CSUB volleyball team fell flat in a 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16 upset loss at the University of Portland Monday night in Portland.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Warner (Tehachapi HS) led CSUB (13-11 overall) by hitting .500 with eight kills and no errors in 16 attempts. Freshman outside hitter Lindy DeGeare (Stockdale HS) added a team-high 10 kills.
Ashley Grayson and Jessica Clemens led Portland (6-17) with 15 kills apiece.
The Roadrunners led wire-to-wire in a tight first set and lost a late lead in the third. Portland led for most of the second and fourth sets to secure the win in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
CSUB returns home to play four of its next five matches, beginning with a Wednesday meeting with national power Fresno Pacific University in the Icardo Center.
