Tigers Strike in Overtime to Spoil Roadrunner Senior Day

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
On Senior Day at the Main Soccer Field on Sunday, it was a University of the Pacific freshman that took top billing as Laura Hogan scored twice, including the game?winner in overtime, as the Tigers took down the CSUB women's soccer team, 2?1. The ?Runners drop to 5?12?1 while the Tigers improve to 9?7?1. The loss marked the first time CSUB has fallen after holding a lead at the half this season.

Senior Alexa Vickroy, who was honored along with classmates Jackie Torvestad and Michelle Martinez before playing in their final home game, scored her second goal in as many games to put the Roadrunners up 1?0 in the 28th minute on a penalty kick. Vickroy earned the free kick after she was taken down by the Tiger defense inside the box. It was the senior's first career penalty shot and goal.

Late in the half, freshman Sarina Coutin shook free of her defender right of the box but her crossing attempt was turned away by the Pacific defense.

In the second, Hogan fired a shot inside the box that deflected off a CSUB defender but bounced straight back to the first?year striker. Hogan lifted a shot to the top corner of the back post to tie the score at 1?1 in the 58th minute.

CSUB freshman keeper Marina Constantinou made a save late in regulation to send the game into extra time.

In the extra frame, Pacific's Kylee Ah Choy cleared a ball that Hogan tracked down and then beat Constantiou one on one to end the game.

Constantinou finished with six saves while Jill Medigovich had two saves in her season debut. Freshman Kassi Massey had a team?high two shots for the ?Runners.

“It was a tale of two halves,” Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke said after the match. “I thought we played well enough in the first half to score a couple of goals and in the second half they dominated and we didn't play our game. We played well in overtime but got countered and they scored, that's the game of soccer sometimes. (Sophomore Alexandria) Ngo played an exceptiona game for us in the midfield and was by far our best player today.”

Halloween marks the conclusion of the 2008 Roadrunner campaign with a 2 p.m. match at Seattle University on Friday. Seattle handed the ?Runners a 2?0 loss back on Sept. 28 on the Main Soccer Field.
