SAN JOSE, Calif. ? The CSUB volleyball team dropped a close match Saturday night, falling in four sets at San Jose State, 25?23, 24?26, 25?14, 25?22 in Spartan Gym.

Senior outside hitter Sarah Norman (Stockdale HS) led the CSUB (11-10 overall) offense with 15 kills and a .361 attack percentage. Norman was the only Roadrunner to hit better than .250 Saturday night.

Rosemary Stribling (West HS) and freshman Alysia Baker (Vista/Tri-City Christian HS) also reached double figures with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Mystie McNaughton (Stockdale HS) continued to inch closer to the CSUB career and single season digs records with a match?high 21 vs. the Spartans.

Brianna Amian (14 kills) and Kelly Crow (13) were the only players in double figures for San Jose State (9-10)

The Roadrunners were a bit shaky in the attack, making eight more errors than the Spartans while hitting just .176 for the match. Nevertheless, the 'Runners nearly pulled out the first and fourth sets.

CSUB did pull out the second set with a remarkable comeback. With the Spartans serving for the set at 24?20, a Stribling kill ignited a lightning quick rally in which the 'Runners scored six unanswered points. Junior Kayla Wiliiamson (Stockdale HS) served the final five points for CSUB, with Stribling adding two more kills.

But the 'Runners could hold on in two other close sets. With set one tied at 23-23, San Jose State got a kill from Kylie Miraldi then a combo block from Amian and Colleen Burke to pull out the win. The 'Runners and Spartans were tied as late as 21?21 in set four before kills from Miraldi and Nia Freeman helped San Jose pull away.

CSUB returns home Wednesday evening to host Big West Conference leader the University of the Pacific. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
