BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? CSUB diver Emily Bissett out-dueled Jo Thibodaux on both the one and three meter boards, but the Spartan swimmers had better luck as San Jose State took a 149-61 dual meet win over the Roadrunners Friday at the John S. Hillman Aquatics Center.

Bissett, a sophomore out of Covington, Wash., turned in first place scores of 219.15 in the one-meter event and 216.45 in the three-meter event.

Meanwhile, in the swimming events, the ?Runners started the meet slow, but got some strong performances late in both the breast and backstrokes. Sophomore Tessa Brown finished second in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:33.22, battling San Jose State's Caitlin Macky all the way to the finish.

In the 200 yard backstroke, freshman Stephanie Donnelly nearly pulled out a victory, but her time of 2:09.38 was just over a second behind winner Lauren Mar, who finished in 2:08.27.

The ?Runners also turned in a strong team performance in the final event of the day, the 200 yard freestyle relay. Just three seconds separated the top three teams with CSUB finishing third at 1:44.44.

The 'Runners and Spartans match-up again Saturday with a 12-event meet scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
