SPARTAN NOTES (9-10 overall): The Spartans enter the week with nine wins and are seeking their first 10+ win season since 2002, when they went 10?22...SJSU grabbed 54 boards in its last game (at Fresno), its first 50+ rebound games since 2002...the Spartans feature three starters averaging in double figures, led by junior guard DaShawn Wright (10.7 ppg)...Sophomore forward C.J. Webster adds 10.3 ppg and a team?high 6.7 rpg.

SERIES HISTORY: The all?time series is tied 1?1...The Spartans won earlier this season at Rabobank Arena, 78?63...Prior to that game, the teams had not met since the 'Runners took a 42?41 decision during the 1981?82 season.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
2008 -- SJSU 78, at 'RUNNERS 63
1982 -- 'RUNNERS 42, at SJSU 41

THIS DATE IN ROADRUNNER HISTORY: The 'Runners have played just one game under Keith Brown on January 28, defeating Chico State 83?76 in 2006 behind 28 points from Antonio Griffin.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Roadrunners reach the midway point of their five?game road trip Tuesday night with their first stop at San Jose State since 1985. The trip includes stops in four states: California (Long Beach State, San Jose State); Oregon (Univ. of Portland); Texas (UT?Pan American) and Wyoming (Univ. of Wyoming). By the time the 'Runners return to Bakersfield on Feb. 13, they will have covered 23 days and 8,088 miles round trip.

ROAD SWEET ROAD:
Returning to the road road may actually be a good thing for the 'Runners, who have won four of their last five games away from Rabobank Arena.

WHEN LAST WE MET:
CSUB and San Jose State met for the first time since the 1984?85 season when they squared off in Rabobank Arena on Nov. 30. The 'Runners led by as many as eight points late in the first half and carried a 37?33 lead into the break. But the Spartans exploded for 45 points in the second half en route to a 78?63 victory.

Junior center Santwon Latunde (Landover, Md./Cowley County CC)?who is seeking a medical redshirt following shoulder surgery?led CSUB with an 18?point, 11?rebound double?double. C.J. Webster had a 10?point, 13?rebound double?double to pace the Spartans.

SPREADING THE WEALTH:
The Roadrunners have been very generous this season when it comes to sharing the statistical glory. Through the first 21 games of 2007?08, seven different players have led the team in scoring while eight different players have led the team in rebounding. See page six of this release for the detailed lists.

BALANCING ACT:
Although junior swingman Terrence Johns (Chicago/Bakersfield College) is the only 'Runner averaging in double figures, Head Coach Keith Brown has not had a problem finding double?figure scorers this season. When Donald Lee (L.A. Pierce College) notched 14 points versus Utah Valley, he became the 10th 'Runner to reach that plateau in 2007?08.

DOUBLE?DOUBLE TOIL AND TROUBLE:
Sophomore forward Trent Blakley (Alta Loma HS) continued his strong run of recent play last week, notching his first career double?double in CSUB's trilling overtime win at Long Beach State. He became the fifth different 'Runner this season to record a double?double.

For the record, the others are: Cory Brown, Terrence Johns, Santwon Latunde and Demarcus Hall (twice).

'RUNNERS AMONG THE INDEPENDENT LEADERS: Several Roadrunners continue to earn spots among the top NCAA Division I Independent players in this week's statistical rankings. Freshman point guard Alex Johnson (Toronto/Vaughan Road Academy) is the only 'Runner to lead a category and to be ranked in more than one. Johnson tops all Independent players in three?point field goal percentage at 49.2 (30-of-61). Johnson also ranks No. 6 in assists at 3.2 apg.

Other 'Runners among the leaders include junior swingman Terrence Johns, who is No. 7 in scoring (13.7 ppg); freshman guard Donavan Bragg (Inglewood/Serra HS), No. 3 in assists (3.5 apg); Trent Blakley, No. 10 in rebounding (5.6 rpg); freshman forward Cory Brown, No. 6 blocks (1.1 bpg) and senior guard Zack Grasmick (Strathmore/Granite Hills HS), No. 6 three?point percentage (42.0).

...AND THE LITTLE ONES SHALL LEAD THEM:
With an eye towards the future, the Roadrunners continue to play a rotation that leans heavily on their younger players. Freshmen and sophomores account for 51 of CSUB's 105 total starts this season and have played 2,220 of a possible 4,250 minutes this season (52 percent).

GRASMICK PASSES 600?POINT PLATEAU: Senior guard Zack Grasmick recently became the 35th player in CSUB history to reach the 600?point plateau for his career. Grasmick enters the San Jose State game ranked No. 31 all?time with 617 points. With nine points last week at Portland, he passed Dock Ellis, Tony Hoggatts and Derrick McCray (609) for 32nd place. He is 11 points away from tying Don Davis (628) for the No. 30 spot.

'RUNNERS VS. DI COMPETITION:
Although 2007?08 is the first time the Roadrunners take on a full NCAA Division I schedule, it does not mark the first Bakersfield foray into NCAA Division I play. The 'Runners own an all?time mark of 24?58 in 82 games against 40 different Division I opponents. Note that this mark does not include games against current DI teams that were not DI when they met.

36 YEARS OF CSUB BASKETBALL:
The 2007?2008 season marks the 37th anniversary of Roadrunner men's basketball at CSUB. Since the program's inception in 1971?72, the Roadrunners have posted an impressive all?time record of 737?320 (.697).

WHERE OTHERS HAVE GONE BEFORE:
Making the leap from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I play is a big step. It's also a step taken by several Roadrunner rivals over the past few seasons. Bakersfield is the sixth West Region school to make the jump since 1990. The others are: Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Sacramento State, UC Davis and UC Riverside.

In fact, DII and the California Collegiate Athletic Association have been jumping off points for many of the current DI programs in the West. All nine Big West Conference members are former DII schools and all but UC Irvine were formerly in the CCAA. Other former DII and CCAA schools from the West include Fresno State, Pepperdine, San Diego State and San Jose State.
