LOS ANGELES ? Following a week of
trying times away from pool, the CSUB women's swim team returned to
competition Saturday and responded with inspiring team and individual
performances against Loyola Marymount.
The team of Stephanie Donnelly,
Veronica Campbell, Lexie Kelly and Erin Craft got things started off
with a 1:53.95 first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.
Leah Felber followed with an 11:05.64
victory in the 1000 yard freestyle and two events later, Craft and
Donnelly went one-two in the 100 yard backstroke. The duo would trade
places in the 200 yard backstroke as Donnelly turned in a winning
time of 2:11.94 and Craft followed with a 2:12.20 finish.
Also claiming individual wins were
Kelly, with a 2:14.26 finish in the 200 yard individual medley and
Campbell, who won the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.36.
Kelly would also finish second in the
200 yard butterfly while Tessa Brown took the runner-up position in
both the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke events.
While the Roadrunners came up short in
the final team points total, 154-104, the score meant little in
comparison to the individual performances.
“After the week we had it was a
great swim,” said Head Coach Pat Skehan of her team's performance.
“We needed to let go and be swimmers. And we ended up with a bunch
of season-best times.”
