IRVINE, Calif. ? Cal State Bakersfield senior Alyssa Lewis improved her
school record in the 3,000 steeplechase for the second time in three
weeks to highlight the Roadrunners' day at the Steve Scott Invitational
in Irvine, Calif., on Saturday.
Lewis' time of 11:19.75 was good enough for fourth place in the loaded field on Saturday, and it also improved her school record by about one second. Just two weeks ago, Lewis broke her own school record in the steeple for the first time this season by more than 23 seconds.
Lewis' performance highlighted a day filled with season-best marks for the Roadrunners, especially on the women's side. Freshman Sheena Cooper turned in a season best in the 100 meters at 12.50 while teammate Amber Lopes had season bests in both the 100 (12.79) and 200 (26.23). Jessica Cooper also had a seasonal best in the 200 in 26.79.
Bethany Lopez won her heat in the 800 meters on the way to a season-best 2:26.44, and Lewis also had a season-best in the 1,500 meters in 4:57.44.
In the men's competition, former Roadrunner Arnaldo Cueto won the hammer throw with a season-best 213-5, while current Roadrunner Nick Umholtz was third at 194-7.
The Roadrunners complete their regular season next weekend when they take part in the Claremont Classic.
