FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman Katina Fruguglietti threw a personal-best 160-4 in the women's hammer throw to finish seventh at the presitigious Cal-Nevada Championships at Fresno State on Saturday.
Fruguglietti's toss of 160-4 was the best of her young collegiate career and was the seventh best throw by a collegiate athlete at the meet, which featured the best athletes from California and Nevada no matter what level of school they compete.
In addition to Fruguglietti's personal best in the hammer, senior Nick Umholtz placed second in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 191-1. His throw only trailed UCLA's Boldi Kocsor in the competition.
Also competing on Saturday was Alyssa Lewis, who finished the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:45.36; Grace McClellan placing in a tie for 6th in the women's high jump at 5-3; and Evan Wahl placing eighth in the javelin at 163-9.
In the team competition, Bakersfield was 14th in the men's competition with 10 points, and the Roadrunners were 16th in the women's competition with 6.5 points.
