NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Cal State Bakersfield shot putter Ryan Davis earned a win in his event while Nick Umholtz and Alyssa Lewis took second in their respective events at the Northridge Invitational.
Davis took first place in his main event for the second week in a row after winning the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton last weekend. Davis' throw of 58-7 1/2 to win the Northridge Invitational was a season best. He also placed fourth in the discus (157-9) and ninth in the hammer throw (169-7).
Davis was joined by current teammate Umholtz and former teammate Arnaldo Cueto with big days in the throws. Cueto won the men's hammer throw competition with a season-best 217-7 and he was followed in second place by Umholtz at 191-1.
Lewis, Bakersfield's school record holder in the 3,000 steeplechase, placed second in that event in 11:59.10.
In other highlights, Sheena Cooper was eighth in the 200 meters in 26.39 and Carlos Cabanillas was sixth in the 5,000 in 16:19.94.
