BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -? Jaycee Carroll poured in a game-high 27 points, including six three-pointers, to lead Utah State to an 88-66 win Saturday over Cal State Bakersfield.
Gary Wilkinson had 21 points, 17 in the first half, and Tai Wesley chipped in 12 for the Aggies who improve to 6-5 on the season.
Terrence Johns finished with 20 points for Bakersfield while Alex Johnson and Zack Grasmick added 14 and 11 points, respectively. Demarcus Hall also reached double figures with 10 points off the bench.
Both teams shot more than 60 percent from beyond three in the first half, combining for 13 three-pointers in that 20-minute span. But while Utah State stayed hot in the second half, hitting 60 percent from the field and beyond the arc, the Roadrunners (1-7) went ice cold, making just six field goals on 28 attempts.
The Aggies stretched a 47-40 half-time lead to a 15-point advantage at the 15:26 mark on a jumper by Stephen DuCharme. While the Roadrunners would cut the lead to nine on two occasions midway through the period, Utah State responded quickly, opening the game back up and racing away down the stretch for the 22-point win.
