THIS DATE IN ROADRUNNER HISTORY: The Roadrunners posted their seventh of eight consecutive wins on the season with an 89?82 win over UC Davis on Jan. 2, 1987.

SANTWON IS GONE: CSUB received some rough news when it learned that junior forward Santwon Latunde (Landover, Md./Cowley County College) will miss the rest of the season after injury his shoulder prior to the Cal Poly game. Latunde, who will seek a medical redshirt, was CSUB's leading rebounder (6.1 rpg) and second?leading scorer (10.6 ppg)

ANOTHER CCAA REUNION: When the Roadrunners and Aggies meet Wednesday evening, it will mark the the fifth time this season the 'Runners have met one of their former CCAA men's basketball rivals. The others were: Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly and UC Riverside. For the record, 2007?08 opponents Fresno State, Pepperdine, San Jose State, University of the Pacific and Long Beach State also are former members of the CCAA, but they were not members concurrent with CSUB.

FOLLOWING IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS... As the Roadrunners continue to navigate through the transition to full NCAA Division I status, they will get a glimpse of their future when they host UC Davis. The Aggies completed their transition in 2006?07 and are in their first full season of NCAA Division I ? and Big West Conference ? membership.

I WISH ME A MERRY CHRISTMAS: For the second consecutive game, a Roadrunner player gave himself ? and his teammates ? a nice Christmas gift by reaching the 20?point plateau for the first time in his career. At UC Riverside on Dec. 22, senior guard Zack Grasmick (Strathmore/Granite Hills HS) scored a career?high 26 points in CSUB's 71?53 win. In Friday night's 73?71 thriller over South Dakota State, sophomore forward Trent Blakley (Alta Loma HS) poured in a career?high 23 points and added a career?high nine rebounds.

WE'RE ON A ROLL... albeit a modest one. By defeating South Dakota State last week, the 'Runners won consecutive games for the first time at the NCAA Division I level.

WORKING OVERTIME: CSUB's 73?71 thriller against South Dakota State was the first time the 'Runners have had to play overtime since since a 70?69 loss to Cal Poly Pomona on Feb. 10, 2006 ? a span of 51 games. The game was CSUB's first OT win since an 81?77 victory at Chico State on Jan. 9, 2004 ? a span of 117 games.

Prior to the victory over SDSU, the 'Runners had not won an overtime game at home since a 74?68 win over Cal State San Bernardino on Mar. 7, 2003 ? a span of 130 totals games and 66 home games.

DOING IT THE HARD WAY: Trailing 61?55, the 'Runners had to come from six points down in the final five minutes to force overtime (and subsequently beat) South Dakota State last week. It marked the first time this season that CSUB has come from behind to take the lead in the final five minutes of regulation. Although they've won 13 games over this span, it was CSUB's first come?from?behind win in the final five minutes since a 59?57 victory at Cal State Stanislaus on Jan. 5, 2007.

...AND THE LITTLE ONES SHALL LEAD THEM: With an eye towards the future, the Roadrunners continue to play a rotation that leans heavily on their younger players. Freshmen and sophomores account for 33 of CSUB's 65 total starts this season and have played 1,377 of a possible 2,625 minutes this season (52.4 percent).

'RUNNERS VS. DI COMPETITION: Although 2007?08 is the first time the Roadrunners take on a full NCAA Division I schedule, it does not mark the first Bakersfield foray into NCAA Division I play. The 'Runners own an all?time mark of 20?54 in 74 games against 36 different Division I opponents. Note that this mark does not include games against current DI teams that were not DI when they met.

36 YEARS OF CSUB BASKETBALL: The 2007?2008 season marks the 37th anniversary of Roadrunner men's basketball at CSUB. Since the program's inception in 1971?72, the Roadrunners have posted an impressive all?time record of 733?316 (.699).

WHERE OTHERS HAVE GONE BEFORE: Making the leap from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I play is a big step. It's also a step taken by several Roadrunner rivals over the past few seasons. Bakersfield will be the sixth West Region school to make the jump since 1990. The others are: Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Sacramento State, UC Davis and UC Riverside.

In fact, DII and the California Collegiate Athletic Association have been jumping off points for many of the current DI programs in the West. All nine Big West Conference members are former DII schools and all but UC Irvine were formerly in the CCAA. Other former DII and CCAA schools from the West include Fresno State, Pepperdine, San Diego State and San Jose State.
