OGDEN,
Utah ? As the temperature dropped outside, CSUB's men's basketball
team could find no warmth inside, dropping a 74-43 decision to Weber
State at the Dee Event Center in Ogden. The
state of Utah has been a thorn in the Roadrunners' side over the years, as they have won
just once in four tries.
For
the second consecutive game, the Roadrunners (1-10 overall) were
without the services of Santwon Latunde due to a shoulder injury.
The junior center has been CSUB's biggest inside threat with 10.6
points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
A
strong defense effort by both teams resulted in a low-scoring start
in the first half. But the Wildcats (4-6 overall) eventually found
their stroke, breaking a 17-17 tie a the 5:52 mark and riding a 12-3
run into the break.
One
bright spot for the 'Runners was a season-high 15 point output from
forward Trent Blakley. The sophomore scored the 'Runners first six
points of the second half, helping cut the deficit to five at the
18-minute mark. But Weber State would go on to make nine second-half
three pointers, shooting away any hopes CSUB had of making a
comeback.
Dezmon
Harris led the three-point attack, nailing 4-for-4 from beyond the
arc and finishing with 16 points. Daviin Davis and Kellen McCoy both
netted 13 points off the bench for Weber State while Arturas Valeika
had a team-high six boards.
Freshman
guard Alex Johnson contributed nine points for CSUB, including a pair
of three's, while senior forward Demarcus Hall had seven points off
the bench. Leading scorer Terrence Johns was held scoreless, shooting
0-for-4 from the floor.
The
'Runners will look to give themselves an early Christmas present and
a win on Dec. 22 when they travel to take on UC Riverside at 7 p.m.
CSUB then returns home to Rabobank Arena on Dec. 28, opening a
four-game homestand with a match-up against South Dakota State.
