FRESNO, Calif. ? In the first-ever meeting between the CSUB and Fresno State women's basketball programs, the Bulldogs did what they do best: earn a “W” at the Save Mart Center. The result was a 93-50 loss for the Roadrunners Saturday afternoon as Fresno improved to 33-7 in its home facility.
Fresno State (2-7 overall) knocked down 10 of its first 11 attempts and shot a blistering 59 percent from the field in the first half to carry a 51-24 lead into the break.
Junior guard Kelley Tarver's three-pointer at the 17:52 mark gave CSUB (5-6 overall) an early 7-3 advantage, but the Bulldogs rolled off 20 straight points over the ensuing four-and-a-half minutes. Junior guard Krista Arase finally broke the run with a layup with 13:22 remaining.
Freshman guard Jaleesa White nailed four first-half three pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points, including five treys. Bailey Amundsen came off the bench to score 15 points while Hayley Munro chipped in 14. Tierre Wilson, the Bulldogs leading scorer at 18.9 points per game, was held to just 10.
Tarver led the Roadrunners with 16 points while sophomore guard Tiffany Belt added 11. Arase handed out a game-high seven assists, but the ?Runners would also commit 19 turnovers and give up a 49-26 spread on the boards.
Despite improving their field goal percentage in the second half, from 30 percent to 40, CSUB was never able to recover from the 27-point half time deficit.
CSUB will look to rebound on Wednesday when it travels to Cal State Northridge for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
