Biography
Last Season: Krista Arase made her presence felt immediately, quickly making a case for her claim as the best pure point guard in the CCAA as a freshman in 2006…was one of only three freshmen to earn All–CCAA recognition in 2006 when she led both the CCAA and the West Region in assists…finished No. 9 in all of NCAA Division II by averaging 6.1 apg…her 172 total assists and 6.1 apg both set Roadrunner single–season records…passed for at least three assists in 27 of her 28 appearances (all starts) and dished at least five assists 22 times…career–high 11 assists came in a win over Western New Mexico (11–19–05)…also reached double figures with 10 dimes in a win over San Francisco State (1–13–06)…though not known primarily as a scorer, she reached double figures eight times, matching her career high of 19 points twice… very proficient shooting from behind the lines, leading the team by converting 87 percent of her free throws (62-of-71) while shooting 41 percent (30-of-74) from beyond the arc…also finished ranked No. 72 nationally in steals (2.5 spg)…led team in assists 18 times and in steals 10 times.
High School: One of the most highly–regarded point guard prospects in the greater Los Angeles area in 2005, Arase was a first team All–CIF Southern Section selection at Mark Keppel High School, where she averaged 17.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game for an Aztec team that finished 26–5 and advanced to the second round of the sectional tournament…played varsity ball all four seasons, earning All–Almonte League honors three times and league MVP recognition twice…led Keppel to an unblemished 40–0 league record—and four league titles—during her prep career…career–high 33 points came against Long Beach Wilson…career–high 12 assists came in a win over Montebello…also had 10 rebounds vs. Montebello.
Personal: Arase has not declared a major at Cal State Bakersfield…her father, Sam, is a police officer and her mother, Diana, is a teacher who graduated from Roadrunner rival Cal State L.A.…has served as a youth basketball coach in the offseason.
