Late Goal Gives Cal State L.A. Win Over Roadrunners

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A Cal State L.A. goal with 1:46 remaining in the match gave the Golden Eagles a 2-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday night at Jesse Owens Stadium.

Bakersfield outshot Cal State L.A. and had tied the score on a goal from Moriah Neville but the Golden Eagles added a late goal to earn the win and stay undefeated in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Cal State L.A. also moves to 5-1-0 overall. Bakersfield drops to 3-3-1 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play.

The match was scoreless through 66 minutes before Cal State L.A.'s Christine Duff scored on a corner kick from Erica Prado to make it 1-0 in the 67th minute.

But Neville's sixth goal of the season tied the score when she knocked in her unassisted tally with just under 12 minutes remaining in the match. It appeared ready to head to extra time, but Cal State L.A.'s Kastidi Robles scored the game-winner with just 1:46 left in the match on an assist from Khadijah Greenwood.

Bakersfield had 12 shots to Cal State L.A.'s 10.

Roadrunner goalkeeper Ashley Witten made five saves in the loss while Cal State L.A.'s Reyna Coca also made five saves while allowing just the one goal.

Bakersfield stays on the road on Friday when it travels to Cal Poly Pomona for a 1:30 p.m. match against the Broncos in the first half of a women's-men's doubleheader.
