LOS ANGELES The Cal State Bakersfield water polo team wrapped up a fourgame stretch against four ranked teams Sunday with a 167 loss at No. 2ranked Southern California at the McDonalds Swim Complex in Los Angeles.
The Roadrunners went 13 against some of the best teams on the west coast on this road trip, scoring an upset victory over No. 18 Cal State Northridge on Friday. However, an upset was not in the cards against a tough Trojan squad.
USC jumped out to a quick 41 lead and despite two goals in the second period the Trojans jumped to a 93 halftime lead. In the third period, USC began to pull away, scoring six goals thanks to Brittany Hayes who netted three of her gamehigh four goals in the period.
Freshman Kaila Karr led the way with three goals while Kathrine Gillett scored two to pace the Roadrunner attack.
The Runners (14) travel to UC San Diego for the UCSD Arena Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 1112).
