BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Bakersfield has announced the addition of Greg Osbourne as the Roadrunners' Director of Golf.
His duties and responsibilities will be the management and supervision of our men's and women's golf team. He will also be responsible for fundraising to support and sustain the men's and women's golf program in coordination and cooperation with the overall fund-raising for the Athletics Department. Osbourne begins his duties at CSUB on June 6.
Osbourne comes to Bakersfield from Glendale College where he served as the head men's coach from 2007-13 and as the women's coach from 2010-13. During his time with the Vaqueros, Osbourne led members of his program (s) to two state runner-up finishes, four individual All-Americans, and one state champion. He was named WSC Conference Coach of the Year on two occasions.
"I am very excited to continue to build on the successful program here at Bakersfield," Osbourne said. "I am very familar with the area as we would play here while I was at Glendale, and when the opportunity presented itself, I went for it."

As a player, Osbourne, earned first team All-Conference honors for Cal Lutheran three times from 1982-84. He was named first team All-District in 1983 and 1984 and led the Kingsmen in qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament in both years. In 1984, he was the NAIA District III Individual Champion, and earned All-American honors that season when he placed fourth at the NAIA National Championships. He was inducted into the Cal Lutheran Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
As a member of the PGA, Professional Golfers Association, Osbourne has been involved in all aspects of the golf industry for over 25 years. He developed his own teaching method with the use of computer technology, serving as the Head Golf Professional at Chevy Chase Country Club, in Glendale. Over the years he has been selected to represent the companies of Titliest, Foot-Joy, Dr. Pepper, Golf Digest and others in National commercial golf campaigns.
He has worked in many different aspects of the golf industry. He became president of United States Golf Corporation from 1992-1995 where he was involved in the development of a highly advanced golf ball. He then became president and owner of Wisdom Golf Inc., which researched and developed a state of the art titanium golf clubs and marketed them through sales strategies via the Internet from 1995-1997.
Establishing himself as a well-respected instructor, in 1998 he became Head Golf Professional at Sepulveda Golf Complex, before moving to Whittier Narrows golf course in Rosemead in 2001. After gaining a spot on the North – South Cup Team for three consecutive years, he won the All-American Classic in 2003 and several local PGA events. In 2006, he competed on a professional golf team, called the Los Angeles Stars of the National Golf League. He also had a reoccurring role as an actor on the NBC show Las Vegas starring James Caan. In fact, Caan served as Osbourne's assistant coach for a time at Glendale College.
Osbourne will replace Dave Barber, who is retiring as the head men's and women's golf coach of the 'Runners. It is anticipated Barber will continue with a role in the men's and women's golf programs as will current assistant coach Tony Bernardin.
“On behalf of the Athletics Department, I want to personally thank Coach Barber for his dedication to the CSUB Golf Program. We are excited that Dave is maintaining an important role with our golf program. He will be an invaluable resource for Greg,” said Siegfried.
Both Roadrunner programs will begin play in the Western Athletic Conference in the 2013-14 season.
