DENVER, Colo.-- The Western Athletic Conference today released its 2014 All-WAC softball teams and major awards as selected by the league's head coaches. Bakersfield's Madison Bundy (Jr., Anacortes, Wash., Oregon State) and Karissa Veiga (Sr., Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS) were both named to the conference's second team.
Bundy finished the regular season with a .275 batting average while starting all 54 of Bakersfield's games. The junior from Washington was a staple in the 'Runner infield as she started 42 games at third base and she recorded the seventh most assists in the WAC this season (91). Bundy tied for first on the team in doubles (10) and tied for second in most RBI (16) as she proved herself to be both an offensive and defensive threat.
Veiga led the 'Runners all year in multiple offensive categories including batting average (.315) and runs scored (32). The senior outfielder also finished the regular season with the third highest total in all of NCAA Division I with five triples. Veiga led the 'Runners with 11 stolen bases on 12 attempts, finished second in the WAC in hits with 58, and ended up second on the team in on-base percentage (.368). Starting 53 out of 54 games as the leadoff hitter in the 'Runner lineup, Veiga was the source of a large portion of the Bakersfield offensive production.
