Bakersfield Adds Kevin Mays For 2014-15

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-Head men's basketball coach Rod Barnes has added another component to his 2014-15 roster with the signing of Odessa Community College forward Kevin Mays to a National Letter of Intent to play with the Roadrunners next season.

Mays, a Queens, N.Y. native, started his career at Maryland-Eastern Shore after a prep career at St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. where he averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and nearly three assists per game.  As a freshmen at UMES, he led the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game and nearly seven rebounds per contest. While at Odessa this past season as a sophomore, he averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds a game for the Wranglers and was named All-Conference in the ultra-competitive Western Junior College Athletic Conference.

“Kevin is a very competitive player that can play both inside and outside,” said head coach Rod Barnes. “He will bring toughness and physicality to our team along with rebounding and defending which Kevin does at a high level.”

“We are excited about signing Kevin as he fits our culture.”

Mays started 29 games while at Odessa and was ranked 5th in the nation with 151 offensive rebounds during the season, while his 12.2 rebounds per game average was 7th-most in the country. He also maintained a 3.1 GPA while at Odessa and earning his Associate's Degree.

Mays is the fifth student-athlete to sign a National Letter of Intent with CSUB men's basketball for next season joining 6' 5” forward Matt Smith from Columbia State Community College, 6' 1” combo guard Cortez Conners of St. Louis Community College,  6'3” wing DaShawn Richmond from Broward County Community College and 6'6” freshman forward Sadiq Inuwa from La Lumiere High School in Houston.
