Briannah Mariner is in her third season at CSU Bakersfield heading into Fall of 2023. After serving her first two seasons as the assistant beach volleyball coach, Mariner added on assistant coaching duties for the indoor squad in summer of 2023. Late that summer, she also was appointed the Interim Head Coach of the Roadrunner beach volleyball team.

In two complete seasons at CSUB, Mariner has enjoyed four `Runner pairs earning Big West All-Conference nods (two in 2022 and 2023) in the sand while 15 `Runners have earned Academic All-Conference honors.

In her first year with the `Runners, Mariner helped Bakersfield earn its first-ever AVCA Top 20 ranking, coming in at No. 20 in back-to-back weeks. CSUB reset its single-season wins record in back-to-back years, including a new standard with 16 victories in 2023.

For three years prior to returning to work for her alma mater, Mariner served as a Sports Performance Coach for Athletes Advantage Academy in Bakersfield. She aided athletes in sport-specific training for several sports including volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, and softball.

Along the way, Mariner also gained valuable knowledge and coaching experience. She started at Centennial High School in Bakersfield, leading the indoor squad to an 8-2 record in 2019. She has also helped with the Jamba Volleyball Club and Bakersfield Volleyball Club. In Fall of 2021, Mariner aided the Bakersfield College indoor squad to a conference title and a state playoffs appearance as an assistant coach.

Mariner spent her final two seasons as a student-athlete at CSUB after transferring in from Adams State. The Bakersfield indoor squad won the 2017 Western Athletic Conference Tournament and appeared in the NCAA Tournament with Mariner averaging 2.2 kills and 0.54 blocks per set. The following year, she earned preseason All-Conference honors before going on to lead the `Runners in kills.

In the sand, Mariner helped CSUB finish fourth in the 2017 Big West Championship playing as part of the team’s No. 3 pair. During her senior season, she and teammate Mattison DeGarmo earned an All-Big West Honorable Mention nod, leading the team as the top pair. For her career accomplishments, Mariner earned a spot on CSUB’s beach volleyball All-Decade Team.

Mariner graduated from CSUB in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and an emphasis in kinesiology-exercise science. A native of Salt Lake City, Mariner now lives in Bakersfield.
