Albert Martins is in his second season season as an assistant coach at CSU Bakersfield.
“Albert is an incredibly passionate coach who thrives in the intensity of the college game,” said CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips. “Having previously worked on the men’s side, I am excited to have is unique perspective and experience. He is organized and sharp while bringing a large amount of energy and personality on and off the field. Albert will be assisting in all facets of the program with a heaving emphasis in recruiting well-qualified student athletes, retaining academic success, and team-training.”
Martins joined the Roadrunners after spending the 2010-11 at Modesto Junior College where he served as an assistant men’s soccer coach. Martins helped lead MJC to its first ever Big 8 Conference Championship in 2011 after the Pirates finished the season 13-2-6. Modesto finished the 2011 ranked No. 11 in the NSCAA Junior College polls.
Martins began his coaching career at his alma mater in 2006 with the men’s soccer program. For three seasons, Martins was part of the Stanislaus staff that helped lead the program to its first ever post-season appearance. From 2007-10, Martins served as the head coach for the Modesto Ajax Elite Girls Soccer program. In 2007 and 2008, the Modesto Ajax Elite won the Nor Cal Premier Soccer League Championship.
A 2005 graduate of Cal State Stanislaus, Martins was named All-CCAA on two occasions and was the school’s first All-Far West Region selection. Martins played for the California Gold of the USL Professional Development League in 2005.
Martin holds a NSCAA National Coaching License. Albert and his wife Petra reside in Bakersfield.
