Simon Tobin was the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Cal State Bakersfield from 1987 to 2013, including a 10-year stint (1996 to 2005) when he led the Roadrunner women’s squad as well. In 27 seasons at the helm of the men’s team, Tobin led CSUB to a record of 305-189-54.

In 1987, the London, England native was appointed head coach of the men's soccer team at CSU Bakersfield. The Roadrunners finished in the final top-20 national coaches poll ten times during their 19 seasons as an NCAA Division II program. In 22 of his 27 seasons, his teams had win-loss records of.500 or higher, and 17 of those seasons saw them win 10 or more games.

The 1997 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Coach of the Year won six conference Coach of the Year awards in both the MPSF and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Tobin coached many `Runners to professional careers, most notably Gyasi Zardes (USMNT member and multi-time MLS Cup Champion).

In 1996, Tobin became the first head coach of the Roadrunners women's soccer team in addition to coaching the men's soccer program at CSU Bakersfield. Tobin's women's teams finished with an 82-94-21 win-loss record, shared the 1997 CCAA championship, and had five 10-win years in ten seasons.

During his eight NCAA Division I and II championship runs, Tobin's 1997 Roadrunners won the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. Three of CSU Bakersfield's seven conference championships came in the last four seasons (2010, 2011, and 2012), when they won the Pacific Division of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).
