College of the Sequoias: The Roadrunner coaching staff landed one of the top junior college big men in California during the early signing period when they inked College of the Sequoias center Jose Lara...although an imposing presence in the paint, Lara is also known for having a soft shooting touch and excellent passing ability...averaged 7.3 points on the strength of 58 percent shooting from the field as a sophomore...also chipped in 4.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game...averaged nine points and six boards per game while shooting 63 percent from the floor as a freshman.

Santa Paula High School: Lara was one of the most dominant players in the Frontier league as a senior at Santa Paula High School...averaged 20.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game in 2006...added 1.7 blocks per game, collecting 45 of Santa Paula’s 62 team blocks as a senior...also played football at SPHS.
