Biography
2016-17 (SENIOR): Helped CSUB reach school's first National Invitational Tournament and become first No. 8 seed in NIT history to reach NIT semifinal…played big role to help CSUB defense to be ranked in Top 15 in NCAA Division I in steals (286) and turnovers forced (16.6) per game and field goal percentage defense (37.2)…finished third in the WAC in steals (1.60) and third on the team in scoring (12.6)…led CSUB in three-point field goal percentage (.387) and steals (56) and was second in assists (106)…named to WAC All-Tournament Team, All-Defensive Team, and Second Team All-WAC…scored career-high 30 points vs. Bethesda Dec. 15.
2015-16 (JUNIOR): Helped lead ‘Runners to first-ever NCAA Division I Tournament appearance…earned WAC Tournament MVP after averaging 12.3 points per game and scoring 18 points including buzzer-beating three-pointer to win Championship game…named Second Team All-WAC, All-Defensive Team, and All-Newcomer Team after averaging 12.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 steals per game…earned WAC Player of the Week twice…scored season-high 27 points at Seattle U Jan. 16…led CSUB in scoring six times and assists 14 times while scoring in double digits 18 times.
2013-15 (JUNIOR COLLEGE): Played the last two seasons at Trinity Valley CC in Athens, Texas where he racked up several All-Conference and NJCAA honors...coach was Kris Baumann...averaged 15.7 points and 7.5 assists per contest in two seasons...earned 2015 Region 14 Player of the Year and NJCAA All-American…named Region 14 All-Conference and 2014 Freshman of the Year…also named 2015 team MVP and was honored by Trinity Valley CC as 'Student of the Month' in Jan. of 2015.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2013 graduate of Madison High School…head coach was…Craig Maura…a three-year varsity starter...named team MVP and once scored 50 points in a single game for the Marlins.
PERSONAL: Born Dec. 2, 1994...Son of Rosiland Byrd...career plans include potential professional basketball career or becoming a basketball coach… a physical education major.
