Kevin Mays enters his sixth season with the CSU Bakersfield men’s basketball coaching staff in Fall of 2024. He serves as an Assistant Coach and specializes in Player Development for the Roadrunners.
Mays was a two-year letterwinner (2014-16) for the CSUB men’s basketball team after transferring in from Odessa College. An undersized forward, Mays used his strength and nose for the ball to rank as one of the Western Athletic Conference's leading rebounders in both of his seasons as a `Runner.
Playing an instrumental role, Mays helped CSUB to its first-ever Western Athletic Conference Tournament title and first-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament at the Division I level in 2015-16. He led the `Runners in rebounding (8.0) and was second on the team in scoring (12.6). Mays finished the season third in the WAC with eight double-doubles and ranked 26th among all NCAA Division I players with 3.48 offensive rebounds per game. A highly efficient scorer, Mays reset CSUB's Division I single-season record for field goal percentage (.518) as a senior.
Mays' junior season was equally as fruitful for the `Runners as the forward averaged 9.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. In his two seasons in Bakersfield, Mays was named to the WAC First team All-Conference once and the All-Defensive Team twice. He still holds the CSUB Division I record for career double-doubles with 16.
A native of Queens N.Y., Mays was a 2011 graduate of St. John's Northwestern Military Academy where he garnered All-Conference and All-Region honors.
A 2016 graduate, Mays earned a bachelor's degree from CSU Bakersfield.
