Dennis
Machado will begin his fourth season as an assistant coach with the CSUB baseball program in 2012. His main
areas of focus are working with the pitchers and catchers, and recruiting.
Machado was the
pitching coach at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria in 2007-08, where, in
2008, his pitching staff included three All-Western State Conference
selections, one All-Southern California team selection and one second team
California Community College All-American.
In the summer of 2007,
Machado was the pitching coach for the Kenai Peninsula Oilers, who went 27-12
and earned a berth in the 2007 NBC World Series. The pitching staff, which
featured the No. 1 and No. 5 rated professional prospects in the Alaska
Baseball League, compiled the second best team ERA (2.54).
Machado returned to
coach the Oilers in the summer of 2008, turning out four all-league pitchers.
The staff set a team and league record with a combined ERA of 2.11, helping the
Oilers to a 30-17 record.
In the summer of 2009,
Machado guided the Glacier Pilots to a 34-26 record and a runner-up finish at
the NBC World Series. Four players were named to the ABL's 2009 All-Star team and
one was also honored at the ABL's Player of the Year. Machado's pitching staff
led the league in strikeouts while the offense produced the league's highest
marks in hits, runs, doubles, home runs and RBI's. Additionally four of his
players were named NBC All-Americans, helping the Pilots lead the World Series
in batting average, runs, hits, RBI's and fielding percentage.
The
summer of 2010 saw Machado returned to the Oilers as the program's head coach. The Oilers went 33-17 and compiled a top 10 finish in the
country. Machado's Oilers featured
seven All-League players including the ACBL's Top Prospect and Silver Slugger
Award winners. The Oilers had
eight of the ACBL's top 25 prospects play for the team while the pitching staff
charted a league leading 2.30 ERA. He will again serve as the Oilers' Head Coach in 2011.
Machado
began his career as a pitching coach for the Kenai American Legion in Alaska
from 1994-97. He then moved on to the assistant head coach/pitching coach
position at East Anchorage High School from 2001-05. During those four years,
Machado's teams went 157-29, including a pair of state championships. He also
turned out three pitchers who were named Gatorade Player of the Year, were
drafted and received NCAA Division I scholarships. After four years at the prep
level, Machado moved on to be named an assistant coach at Porterville College
for the 2006 season.
Machado was drafted by
the Montreal Expos out of high school, but went on to pitch at Butler County
Community College and Oral Roberts University. He also play four years with the
Peninsula Oilers and was a member of the 1994 National Baseball Congress World
Series Championship team.
Machado earned his
bachelor's degree in health and human development from Montana State-Bozeman in
2000. Dennis and his wife, Michelle, reside in Bakersfield.
