Master Plan for Athletics Facilities
The doors of CSU Bakersfield opened in 1970. Since then, the 375-acre campus continues to be a vibrant place to learn and thrive. More than half of the 375 acres are now developed by facilities that accommodate academic programs, student life, and the greater community. Many of the existing buildings have been funded by generous donations from private sources, including the Romberg Nursing Center, the Doré Theatre, Todd Madigan Gallery, and the Walter Stiern Library. Athletics facilities have also benefitted from private funds including the Icardo Center, the Hillman Aquatics Center, the John Antonino Wrestling facility, and most recently, the Kegley Center for Student Success.
The purpose of the development of a master plan for athletics facilities is to provide a roadmap and a vision for what the department will look like for future student-athletes.  The vision for the overall design plan is to improve the function of existing buildings, the addition of critical services for our student- athlete’s health and performance, and to create a space that promotes fellowship and camaraderie among the entire campus community. Â
Our hope is that this plan will inspire those who support CSUB Athletics and the University to assist in the realization of these projects as we seek to provide the best possible student-athlete and fan experiences.
