• Interim Head Coach Martin Navarro Jr. returned a core group of `Runners who have valuable experience to add on the pitch.
  • This year’s Roadrunner squad features 7 returners and 23 newcomers.
• The `Runners are relying on the likes of CJ Walters, Daniela Osejo, and Jaiden Gore to provide the example as the most experienced returning `Runners.
• A handful of new `Runners also bring a strong resume of past experience with them. A primary example is goalkeeper Addyson Evens, a Bakersfield College transfer who has earned the starting spot with standout performances.
  • Evens nearly reset CSUB’s single-match saves record, tallying 14 blocks in Bakersfield’s victory over previously-undefeated Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
• On Sept. 3 at the annual Rowdy Run event, CSUB women’s soccer enjoyed a record-setting crowd of 1,207 fans watching the `Runners compete.

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team returns home this week for its first matches at Icardo Center in nearly a month, opening its Big West home slate against Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State.
• First-year Head Coach Kristen Wright has already made her mark on the CSUB Volleyball program and the local volleyball community, bringing high energy and enthusiasm back to her hometown of Bakersfield.
  • On Sept. 5, Wright notched the 200th win of her collegiate coaching career as Bakersfield defeated previously-undefeated Weber State.
• Suelen Lima, an outside hitter from Brazil, has been Bakersfield’s leading hitter this season and ranks seventh in The Big West with 3.37 kills per set.
• On Sept. 21st, Suelen Lima and Leylah Duran were named the Big West’s Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, following standout performances across a busy week features four matches.
• Bakersfield’s squad features student-athletes from 5 different countries spanning 4 continents: United States, Brazil, Germany, Italy, and Turkey.

CSUB vs. Cal State Fullerton 

• The `Runners will open their Big West home slate against Cal State Fullerton:

• The `Runners will host Long Beach State in their final home match before returning to the road:

  • Long Beach leads the all-time series 10-2.
• In their last matchup the `Runners jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Long Beach State before the Beach rallied to win, 3-2. 
• The `Runners have dropped their last seven meetings against Long Beach State. CSUB is looking to end that streak in their faceoff

• The Roadrunners gear up for a 2-day meet this weekend with an entirely new coaching staff led by Head Coach Shane Pelton.
• Pelton has selected a group of leaders to be captains. This bunch of seniors is comprised of Reed Lucero, CJ Manuel, Josiane Hill, Astrid Medina, and Carolynn Kenney.
• The CSUB men's team consists of 9 newcomers and 16 veterans, with the women includes 7 rookies and 13 returners.

• The Cal State Bakersfield cross country team sets out for its second meet of the 2026 season.
• Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, CSUB Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, is in her 16th season with the Roadrunners.
• Cal State Bakersfield’s roster features one standout returner alongside eight talented newcomers.
• Mansur-Wentworth returns sophomore Ava Leisenfelder, who was a record setter during her rookie campaign.
• Morgan McKenna, a junior college transfer, and incoming freshman Hannah Issa are expected to join Leisenfelder at the front of the `Runner pack.
• Rounding out the CSUB Top 7 should be a quartet of Bakersfield natives Yesenia Trujillo (North HS), Addyson Eggers (Bakersfield College), Mia Leisenfelder (Bakersfield College), and Yuriemi Vasquez (Bakersfield HS).
• Mansur Wentworth on the team’s progress in the early parts of the season: “Ava is 30 seconds ahead of last year and led the team at the Waves Invitational. She is followed by Hannah-FR and Morgan-JR both setting bests and running 2-3 at the Waves Invitational. Our 4-7 is very strong and benefiting from ‘pack running’ Yesenia, Yureimi, Mia, and Addyson have all looked great in training.”

CSUB at Master’s Invitational

• Cal State Bakersfield will be attending the Master’s meet for the third time in the last four seasons.

  • Foster scored five minutes into the second half after Mpawenayo found him behind the Matador defense, and Bakersfield held on for the road victory.
