SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team battled UC Santa Barbara through three sets Saturday night before falling to the Gauchos, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20), in the `Runners' second Big West match of the season. CSUB kept the second and third sets within reach, including a 23-23 tie in the second set.

How It Happened
The Gauchos jumped out early in the opening set, but CSUB continued to battle. The `Runners pulled within four at 19-15 before UCSB closed the set, 25-20. Bacchin led CSUB with three kills in the opening frame.
CSUB came out strong in the second set, taking a 14-10 lead after back-to-back kills from Lima. UCSB responded with a run to regain the advantage, but the `Runners stayed within striking distance. A Bacchin kill brought CSUB within one at 23-24, before the Gauchos secured the set, 25-23.
The `Runners again battled early in the third, with the teams tied at 7-07 and 8-8. UCSB eventually created separation, but CSUB continued to fight, cutting the deficit to 17-22 before the Gauchos finished the match, 25-20.

The `Runners will return home next weekend for their first Big West home matches of the season.
