Toro, Fortun, Castro-Sandoval Named NSCA All-Americans

Three Roadrunner student-athletes have been honored for excellence in performance, dedication, and sport achievement.

Bakersfield, Calif. -- Cal State Bakersfield Athletics proudly announces that three of its student-athletes have been named 2025-26 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-Americans: Javier Toro, Mya Fortun, and Richard Castro-Sandoval. This prestigious recognition highlights their exceptional commitment to strength and conditioning, as well as their outstanding performance in competition.

Toro (Men's Track & Field) earns the honor for the second time in his career, further solidifying his reputation as one of CSUB's most dedicated and disciplined athletes. With 19 Top 3 finishes on the season, Toro is ranked #2 in The Big West in the Hammer Throw and he recently threw a mark that will move him to 20th in NCAA West. The senior `Runner is headed to his third NCAA meet in hammer throw later this season.

Fortun (Women's Soccer) and Castro-Sandoval (Wrestling) join him as first-time recipients, each demonstrating elite work ethic, consistency, and measurable excellence in athletic performance training. Fortun was an integral part of the `Runner women's soccer team, earning Second Team All-Big West honors. She was Bakersfield's only field player to play every minute of the season including the postseason. Castro-Sandoval was Bakersfield's top wrestler for the 2025-26 season after earning his first-ever NCAA Championships appearance in 2025. This season, the 125-pounder earned a national ranking in the middle of the year and placed third at the Pac-12 Championships.

The NSCA All-American distinction is awarded to student-athletes who exemplify the highest standards in strength and conditioning. Nominees are evaluated not only on their performance metrics in the weight room, but also on their success within their respective sports, making this a comprehensive recognition of total athletic development.

The Roadrunners' strength and conditioning program, lead by Joey Rossi and Sam Findley, continues to play a critical role in developing high-performing athletes across all sports. This year's selections underscore CSUB's commitment to building a culture of excellence, where performance training and competitive success go hand in hand.

CSUB Athletics congratulates Toro, Fortun, and Castro-Sandoval on this well-earned achievement and looks forward to their continued success representing the `Runners at the highest level.
