Parker Named Big West Track Athlete of the Meet

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Following a historic performance over the weekend at the conference championships, Sophomore Makiah Parker was named the Big West Track Athlete of the Meet on Thursday afternoon.

Parker took home gold in the 100m finals while placing runner-up in the 200m finals at the championship meet. She was anchor leg for the women's 4x100m relay team which placed second. She totaled 20 individual points for the Roadrunners and went home with a total of three medals.

In just her second year representing the blue and gold, Parker has earned five medals and captured 38 points at the championship meet. A year ago, Parker was named Big West Freshman of the Year.

On day one Parker broke her own school record in the women's 100m prelims with a time of 11.35. She also holds the school record in the women's 200m and helped lead the women's 4x100m relay to a school record back in April.

She becomes the first Roadrunner in program history to be named Big West Championships Track Athlete of the Meet. Parker joins former student-athlete Miranda Miller as the only two CSUB athletes to be honored athlete of the meet. Miller captured the honors back in 2022 when she became the pole vault champion and broke the meet and conference record.

Up next, Parker will compete in both the 100m and 200m at the NCAA First Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 27-30. She will also lead the women's 4x100m relay at the NCAA meet.
