• The Cal State Bakersfield men’s basketball team was unsuccessful in defending the Icardo Center against league-leading Hawai’i. 
• Guard Dailin Smith has led Cal State Bakersfield in scoring (16.0 ppg) for the majority of the season. 
  • Smith has three different 30+-point scoring performances this season. 
• Power forward Ronald Jessamy ranks Top 40 in the country with 46 blocks on the season and has a chance to break the CSUB single-season record in the category (60 blocks). 
• The Roadrunners have been fighting through the injury bug, recently playing short staffed in several games and losing second-leading scorer CJ Hardy (13.7 ppg) for 4-6 weeks.

CSUB 74, Hawai’i 89 

• The `Runners fell behind Hawai'i (16-8, 9-3 BW) early and never recovered in Thursday’s loss at the Icardo Center. 
  • The Rainbow Warriors led 43-32 at halftime and led by as many as 23 points. 
• Hawai’i pounded the paint to the tune of 40 points. 
• AJ George led the `Runners with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, a season-high in scoring. 
• Dailin Smith added 20 points in the loss while Tom Mark tallied 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball hit the road for a clash with Hawai’i, coming up short in a close battle. 
• The Roadrunners will need to continue to find ways to earn wins in order to stay in contention for the Big Championship in March as league play enters the final stretch. 
• Marley Langi has been on a hot streak recently, averaging 20 points per game across her last four contests.

CSUB 54, Hawai’i 61 

• Cal State Bakersfield jumped out to an early lead against Hawai’i (14-10, 8-6 BW) but a late surge by the home team gave the Rainbow Wahine the victory. 
  • CSUB won the first quarter 15-8, but UH’s 17-6 fourth quarter advantage was enough for the win. 
• Marley Langi and Chrishawn Coleman led Bakersfield with 16 points each. 
• Aliyah Carter added 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. 
• Hawai’i shot 25-for-29 (86.2%) from the free throw line while Bakersfield made 14-of-17. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield swimming and diving teams went toe-to-toe with the best of the conference at the Big West Championships. 
• The Roadrunners returned with a historic performance from senior Vili Sivec, who became CSUB’s first male to qualify for the NCAA Championships in 11 years. 
• Bakersfield enjoyed standout performers from a few veterans while a number of `Runner rookies made statements at their first Conference meet. Some highlights from the meet are below: 
  • 3 medals, including 2 Golds from Sivec

• Men’s Highlights: 
  • Senior Vili Sivec stole the show, winning Gold medals in the 100 Fly and 200 Fly 
  • His 200 Fly time reset the CSUB and Big West records 
  • Sivec wraps up his fourth Conference meet with 11 career medals, including 7 Golds
  • Freshman Karsten Eichler showed out in his first Conference meet, earned a Silver medal in the 1650 Free
  • Eichler earned All-Conference honors (Top 8 finish) in 3 events: 500 Free, 400 IM, 1650 Free 
  • Divers Alma Smith and Anderson Laing were regular contenders on all three elements, each taking home a trio of All-Conference honors and gobs of points for the `Runners 
  • Senior Arthur Amaral Schneider earned a Top 8 finish in the 200 Free 
  • Senior Kyle Sary became just the third `Runner in program history to post a sub 20-second time in the 50 Free 
  • The `Runner men broke a pair of CSUB relay records: 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay 
  • As a team, the CSUB men finished fifth of six squads 
• Women’s Highlights: 
  • A trio of freshmen proved to be future stars for the `Runners: 
    • Addison Cerney (200 Back), Mayu Yager (1650 Free), and Emmy Loftus (1650 Free) all earned All-Conference honors during the Conference meet 
  • Cerney landed in CSUB’s Top 5 all-time lists for both the 100 Back and 200 Back 
  • Fellow freshman Laerke Dann-Nielsen posted the fourth-fastest time in CSUB history in the 100 Back 
  • Junior Carolynn Kenney posted personal best times in the 50 Free, 100 Free, and 200 Free 
  • Michelle Grabowski earned a season-best time in the 200 Fly while placing 10th overall 
  • A total of just 10 `Runner women competed at this year’s Big West Championships with a notable portion of the team sitting out this year 
  • Despite the shorthanded personnel, CSUB placed sixth of seven teams 

• Cal State Bakersfield’s baseball team kicked off the 2026 season with four games over three days at Hardt Field. 
• Prior to the start of the season, Head Coach Jordon Banfield promised fans that his squad would play an exciting brand of baseball and they delivered this past weekend. 
  • The Roadrunners averaged over 8 runs per game across Opening Weekend and stole a total of 12 bases, that latter of which ranks #12 in the country 
• CSUB’s pitchers tallied 30 strikeouts this weekend, nearly averaging one strikeout per inning pitched.

CSUB vs. Southern Indiana 

• The Roadrunners went 2-2 against Southern Indiana on Opening Weekend, taking wins in the series opener and series finale. 
• Three of the four games were decided by one run, including both of Bakersfield’s victories. 
• Bakersfield’s offense proved to have a number of dangerous weapons during the series: 
  • Outfielder Elgin Bennet used his bat to earn a spot in the lineup, going 4-for-5 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI 
  • Veteran `Runner Elijah Pelayo hit .467 while driving in 4 runs of his own 
  • Newcomer Yahir Acevedo and catcher Kanoa Morisaki both hit .429 and combined for 7 RBI 
  • First baseman Evan Cloyd batted .375 with a home run and 4 RBI 
• Friday night starter Ryan King struck out 8 batters over 4 innings of work. 
• Relivers Dante Jackson and Jeter Scheurman each appeared three times over the weekend 
  • Scheurman clutched up for a bases-loaded save in the series finale. 
• In the series opener on Friday, got out to a 7-2 lead in the first two innings. USI scored 5 runs over the final two innings, but Bakersfield held on for an 8-7 win. 
• On Saturday, Southern Indiana overcame a 5-0 deficit to take a 7-6 win. 
• Sunday featured a doubleheader that started in favor of the Screaming Eagles, who earned a 14-8 win over the `Runners. Bakersfield answered back with an 11-10 victory to close out the series, thanks in part to a 5-run first inning. 

• The Roadrunner softball team continued the 2026 season by going 1-4 down in Riverside, Calif., closing out the tournament with the team’s first win of the season. 
• The 2026 edition of the CSUB softball team sees 9 returners welcome in 14 newcomers under the leadership of Interim Head Coach Alyssa Graham. 
• Through the first two weeks of the season, the `Runners have faced off three teams that competed in NCAA Regionals last year, including twice against No. 19 Duke.

CSUB at CBU Classic 

• A pair of `Runner veterans stepped up to lead the CSUB offense this week: 
  • Alexia Castro hit .385 (5-for-13) with a pair of extra-base hits and she was on-base at nearly a .500 clip 
  • Mari Narvaiz batted .364 (4-for-11) with two doubles 
• `Runner pitcher Amber Estrada appeared in all five games, posting a solid 2.93 ERA across 14.1 innings of work. 
• Bakersfield played close games against LMU (L, 9-5) and Utah State (7-2) but the `Runners appeared outmatched in a pair of run-rule losses against tournament host California Baptist. 
• In the tournament finale against Saint Francis, CSUB used a 4-run first inning to eventually earn a 7-5 victory, Bakersfield’s first of the season.
