CSUB Stumbles at Home vs. CSUN

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team took the opening set before visiting CSUN rallied for a 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 victory Saturday at the Icardo Center.

  • Suelen Lima led CSUB with 13 kills and added nine digs and two blocks. Leylah Duran recorded six kills, three aces, and a team-high five blocks.
  • Ana Benjamin and Anna Bacchin each added nine kills for the `Runners.
  • Luiza Da Cruz posted a double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs, while Samantha Capinpin had a double-double of her own with 15 assists and 10 digs. Analiese Gagliano collected a team-high 19 digs.
  • Hailey Brockway and Julia Bazylevych paced CSUN with 14 kills apiece.
  • The Roadrunners fell to 10-12 overall and 5-5 in Big West play with the loss.
How it Happened

With the first set tied at 6, CSUB scored three straight points and later used a 4-0 run to build a 16-10 lead. CSUN erased a 17-12 deficit with five consecutive points and went ahead 23-22, but the `Runners claimed the final three rallies for a 25-23 win.

The Matadors broke a 1-all tie with three straight points in the second and later led 7-2. CSUB answered with a 4-0 run to pull within 9-8, but CSUN rebuilt its advantage and evened the match with a 25-19 win.
CSUB scored the first point of the third before CSUN answered with three straight. The Matadors later used a 6-0 run to take a 10-3 lead. The `Runners cut the margin to 16-11 with three consecutive points, but CSUN closed out the set 25-16.

The `Runners led 5-4 in the fourth before the Matadors reeled off seven straight points. CSUB later scored three in a row to trim the deficit to 19-17, but CSUN answered with the final six points to finish the match.
