`Runners Hold Off Tritons In Four-Set Thriller

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield volleyball team defeated UC San Diego, 3-1, on Alumni Night at the Icardo Center Saturday evening. The `Runners secured the victory with a 26-24 win in the fourth set to improve to 9-11 overall and 4-4 in Big West play.

How it Happened

The `Runners opened the match with a 25-21 victory in the first set before extending their advantage with a 25-20 win in the second. Waite-Ward led the offensive attack, while Bacchin and Suelen Lima contributed at the net to help CSUB build a 2-0 lead.

UC San Diego responded in the third set, taking it 25-20 to keep the match alive. The fourth set proved to be a tight battle, with Bakersfield coming through in the closing points to earn a 26-24 win and secure the match.

CSUB finished with 57 kills and 14 total blocks. Luiza Da Cruz paced the offense with 22 assists and added 11 digs, while Leylah Duran recorded eight block assists.
