• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer team has hit its stride in the 2025 season, picking back up with momentum gained at the end of the previous campaign. 
• Bakersfield’s 2024 squad made a deep run into the postseason, reaching the Big West Championship match before ultimately falling in penalty kicks.  
• Under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Whitney Pitalo, the 2025 Roadrunner roster features 32 women: 18 returners and 14 newcomers.  
• So far this season, the `Runners have utilized a well-balanced offense, featuring eight different goalscorers, to create their opportunities: 
  • CSUB’s top offensive weapon this year has been senior Natalie O’Sullivan, a forward who leads Bakersfield with 3 goals and 7 points 
• Senior defender Mya Fortun has proved to be an ironwoman as the only `Runner field player this season to play all 630 minutes. 

CSUB vs. Idaho 

• The `Runners are ready to take on Idaho before heading to La Jolla, Calif. next week for the first Big West game of the season.

• The Vandals had an overall record of 12-5-3 last season 
  • Idaho ended the season against Sacramento State in the Big Sky Conference Championship, being eliminated by penalty kicks 
• Annika Farley was named one of the 47 players on the United Soccer Coaches Preseason D1 Midfielder to Watch List.  
  • After starting in every game last year, she produced five goals and 13 points during the season 
• The `Runners last match with the Vandals was back in 2021, in which Idaho won handily, 4-1 
  • With an overall record of 5-3-0 against the Vandals all-time, Bakersfield is ready to face them on home turf.

• The Roadrunner men’s soccer team made a run at the Big West regular season title in 2024 and will look to finish the job heading into 2025.  
• Cal State Bakersfield played for the Big West crown in the regular season finale despite being predicted to finish last in the 2024 preseason Coaches Poll.  
• Third-year Head Coach Adam Grant will look to a large crop of experienced `Runners to lead a talented group of newcomers.  
• Bakersfield has played short-handed most of this season, missing 2 or 3 starters per match, including First Team All-Conference defender Luka Geishauser.  
  • Grant and the `Runners will aim to grow and learn from their tough non-conference schedule, then hit the Big West slate full force with a battle-tasted and healthy squad. 

CSUB at UNLV 

• The `Runners remain in the Nevada/Utah desert with one final road match scheduled before returning home:

• CSUB and UNLV enjoy a rich history together with Tuesday’s meeting the 18th in the all-time series. 
• The `Runners own a 10-4-3 advantage over the Rebels in the history of the matchup. 
• UNLV won the most recent clash, a match in Bakersfield last season, but the `Runners were undefeated against the Rebels in the four prior meetings. 
• A year ago in Bakersfield, UNLV scored a second-half goal and held on for a 1-0 victory over the `Runners.

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team continues the 2025 season, hosting its first match at the Icardo Center before heading back out for another non-conference tournament. 
• The new-look Roadrunners are building team chemistry from the ground up as the CSUB roster features only one returner who was on the squad last Fall. 
• CSUB Volleyball is moving into a new era with the departure of its previous Head Coach, Giovana Melo. 
  • The `Runners will be led by co-interim Head Coaches, Felipe Nogueira and Cinthia Angus, both of whom have previous head coaching experience. 
• CSUB’s fresh-faced roster welcomes back one returner, Druegan Davis, as well as 14 newcomers. Highlights of a few first-time `Runners: 
  • Nicole Zake (So.): Transferred to CSUB in December from Virginia Tech 
  • Suelen Lima (So.): Spent freshman season at William Carey University, helping the Crusaders go 29-11 and reach the NAIA National Tournament 
  • Luiza Da Cruz (Jr.): Led Miami Dade College to NJCAA Runner-Up finishes in 2023 and 2024, falling to her now-teammate Nele Broszat’s team in the National Championship a year ago. 
• Bakersfield put together a good first showing, on Opening Weekend despite dropping three matches. The `Runners then earned their first victory last weekend in Washington. 

CSUB vs. Santa Clara  

• The `Runners are back home ready to host the Broncos after spending the first two weeks on the road.

• The West Coast Conference unveiled the coaches’ preseason poll showing Santa Clara was picked to finish ninth.  
  • Broncos Middle Blocker, Grace Flanagan, was named as one of the 16 players on the 2025 WCC Volleyball Preseason Team.  
• The `Runners are ready for the challenge up ahead against the Broncos, who are led by a pair of standout performers: 
  • Macy Hinshaw ranks second in the conference with 9.6 assists per set 
  • Cate Shanahan ranks eighth in the WCC with 3.3 kills per set 
• CSUB last had a match with the Broncos in 2023 where the `Runners dropped a 3-1 decision 
  • Bakersfield nearly pushed the match to the fifth set, but fell short in Set 4, 26-24 

CSUB at Nevada Tournament  

• Bakersfield returns to the road for a two-day tournament in Reno: 
  • Sept. 12, vs. Eastern Washington, 2 p.m. (PT) 
  • Sept. 13, at Nevada, 12:30 p.m. (PT)

• Eastern Washington entered the week with an 0-6 record, so the `Runners will be looking to come out strong 
  • CSUB is 2-0 all-time against EWU with the last meeting dating back two years. 
• Nevada is off to a 1-4 start, including losses against NC State and Kansas State. 
  • The Wolfpack and the `Runners have not met since 2019 and UNR holds a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series.
