• The Roadrunners struggles continue as they dropped their sixth game straight
  • Bakersfield has lost four of their six games by nine points or less
• UC San Diego, recently recognized as the #4 mid major in the country, was held to 41% in the first half, but knocked down eight three pointers
  • CSUB and UCSD were knotted at 9-9 with just 11 minutes left in the first half
• The Tritons protected the ball very well, only turning it over five times in the entire game
• Bakersfield attacked the boards, outrebounding UC San Diego 42-25
• CSUB struggled from deep just making two threes on the evening
• Jemel Jones scored 29 points with four rebounds, two blocks, and four assists, Corey Stephenson finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, and two steals

CSUB 91, CSUF 54

• CSUB came into Saturday afternoon needing a win to keep themselves in the hunt for the Big West Championships, and they got exactly that with a dominant victory over Fullerton
• Bakersfield was led by Jemel Jones and Corey Stephenson, 48 points between the two
  • Stephenson had a double double with 23 points on 8/8 shooting and grabbing 11
  • Jones also had 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block
• This was CSUB’s best defensive performance in the last seven games, holding Fullerton to 54 points on 36% shooting and forcing 17 turnovers

• The Cal State Bakersfield swimming and diving teams wrapped up the 2025 Big West Championships with eight medals in tow.
• The Roadrunners enjoyed standout performances from several veteran `Runners with the highlights of the meet listed below:
  • 9 medals, including 2 Golds from junior Vili Sivec
  • 7 program records
  • 18 All-Conference honors
  • 15 times in the CSUB Top 5 all-time lists

CSUB at Big West Championships

• Feb. 12-15, Houston 
• Junior Vili Sivec showed out once again. The reigning conference Swimmer of the Year put his name in serious contention to be a back-to-back winner of the major award. Sivec's accomplishments summarized:
  • 2 gold medals (100 Fly & 200 Fly)
  • 1 bronze medal (50 Free)
  • Reset 5 CSUB records (50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly)
  • Reset 3 Big West records (200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly)
• Senior Dyson Modica earned three medals on the diving elements: two bronzes (1M and 3M) and one silver (Platform) 
• Senior Jessica Franco led the `Runner women with two medals: silver in 1650 Free and bronze in 500 Free
• The men's 200 Free Relay earned bronze while breaking the CSUB record in the process
• Several other `Runners earned All-Conference honors: Anderson Laing (3), Josiane Hill (2), Danielle Albright (2), Lorena Jerebic (1), Claire Smith (1).
• The 2025 season has concluded for most of the squad, but a select group of `Runners will attend a "Last Chance" meet hosted by the University of Georgia, Mar. 1-2, looking to post faster times and possibly qualify for the NCAA Championships.

•  The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team kicked off opening weekend at home with a three-game series against Lamar.
• After sitting out the 2024 season as a redshirt, Nick Mascaro made a big impact in his Roadrunner debut. The outfielder led CSUB with a .455 batting average while hitting Bakersfield's first home run of the season.
• Senior Brock Perreira also showed out, hitting .444 over the season.
• On the mound, redshirt freshman Ryan King had the biggest impact, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings in Bakersfield's win in Game 2.
• Bakersfield did not shy away from a tough opponent to start the season as the Cardinals won 44 games last season, second in the country.
• The Bakersfield baseball team will now hit the road for nearly a month.
• CSUB's next game at Hardt Field is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th at 6:30 p.m. to face Pacific.

Game 1: CSUB 1, Lamar 17

• In a challenging opening matchup, Lamar dominated Bakersfield with a 17-1 victory.
• The `Runners struggled to get the offense going throughout the game, managing only a single run in the fourth inning.
  • Brock Perreira recorded a right-field single that brought Elgin Bennett home.
• Lamar was consistent at the plate, scoring in every inning to seal a commanding win.

Game 2: CSUB 8, Lamar 1

• Bakersfield bounced back in Game 2 with an 8-1 victory, securing their first win under new head coach Jordon Banfield.
• Nick Mascaro put the `Runners on the board in the third inning with a powerful home run.
• Bakersfield extended their lead in the seventh inning, scoring four runs on four hits, and added three more in the eighth to seal the victory.
• Ryan King impressed in relief, pitching 4.1 innings, and allowing just two hits, two walks, and no runs.
• Mascaro finished with three hits, two runs, and one RBI.

Game 3: CSUB 3, Lamar 11

• The `Runners entered the final game of the series with high hopes after their Saturday victory.
• Lamar quickly took control, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding four more in the fourth.
• Bakersfield answered with a single run in the fourth, courtesy of Elijah Pelayo’s single that scored Evan Cloyd, and added another run in the seventh.
• However, Lamar’s offense kept rolling, finishing with 11 runs.
• The game ended after eight innings with Bakersfield putting up three runs on five hits.

• Roadrunners improve to 7-5 on the year
• True Freshman, Maalia Cherry hit five home runs and records 15 RBI in Hawai’i
• Roadrunners enter the Welter Classic on a five-game win streak

Spring Fling Tournament

• The Roadrunners spent the weekend in Hawai’i and left with a 5-1 record for the week
  • This is the first five game win streak in program history in a decade
  • In this winning streak, the Roadrunners have hit eight home runs
• Bakersfield beat Hawai’i, Western Illinois, Sacramento State, and Utah Tech
• The Roadrunner offense scored 56 runs over the six games, with a run differential of +29
  • Bakersfield blanked Western Illinois in both games they played the Leatherheads
• Bailee Bustos ERA is currently sitting at 1.31 with opponents’ batting .217 when facing her
• Several records were reset this weekend as well for the `Runners
  • Hits in a game (16 versus Western Illinois),
  • Most home runs in a single game (four versus Western Illinois),
  • Most runs scored in a game (16 versus Western Illinois),
  • Shay Fuimaono and Maalia Cherry both had the most RBI in a single game with five each versus Western Illinois

• Cal State Bakersfield hosted another pair of home wrestling duals on Sunday, Feb. 16, welcoming North Dakota State and #16 Little Rock to the Icardo Center.
• CSUB has returned to national recognition with four `Runners recently recognized by FloWrestling in the national rankings at some point this season: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Gerrit Nijenhuis (174), AJ Ferrari (197), and Jake Andrews (32).
• FloWrestling ranked Cal State Bakersfield #28 as a team coming into this weekend while InterMat had the Roadrunners at #24 and The Open Mat ranks them #21.
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #13 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling, which also ranks him #3 in the 197-pound weight class. InterMat and The Open Mat agree on the #3 ranking.
  • Ferrari is a perfect 12-0 on the season and has won 32-straight collegiate matches.
• Bakersfield native Jake Andrews is now 20-2 on the season. The `Runner heavyweight won the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week honor on Nov. 26 and he is nationally ranked as high as #17 (The Open Mat).
• Redshirt senior Brock Rogers picked up his first win of the season against a nationally-ranked foe this weekend.

CSUB vs. NDSU/Little Rock

• The Roadrunners were shorthanded for the third-straight week as #3 AJ Ferrari was unavailable to compete in the 197-pound bouts due to injury.
• Final scores:
  • NDSU 27, CSUB 10
  • #16 Little Rock 41, CSUB 6
• Richard Castro-Sandoval (125) took a narrow, 2-1 loss against NDSU's Tristan Daugherty, but rebounded with a 3-0 decision over Little Rock's Jayden Carson.
  • Bakersfield's 125-pounder has now won 7 of his last 9 matches.
• Brock Rogers (149) faced two nationally-ranked wrestlers on Sunday, dropping a tech fall against #12 Jordan Williams (UALR) but earning an 11-6 decision over #31 Gavin Drexler (NDSU).
• Guillermo Escobedo (165) earned a win in his lone bout of the weekend, taking a 14-3 major decision over Boeden Greenley (NDSU).
  • Escobedo is on an 8-match win streak and has a 15-7 record on the year.
• Jake Andrews (285) closed out the match with two more nailbiters, posting a last-second sudden victory against Antonio Ramos.
  • Andrews improved to 20-2 on the season after going 2-19 just two years ago.
• The `Runners will wrap up a busy month at home, closing out the regular season with two more home duals.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team faced a tough road stretch as they wrap up conference play. After a win over UC Riverside, the Roadrunners traveled to play UC San Diego and Cal State Fullerton. Despite the challenges, senior standout Ary Dizon continued to impress, leading the team in both games. Dizon remains the Big West leader for blocks and blocks per game, and she is also ranked nationally.

UC San Diego

• The Roadrunners got off to a slow start against the UC San Diego Tritons, scoring only 15 points in the first half.
• UCSD, on the other hand, had a strong opening, putting up 15 points in the first quarter alone.
• Ary Dizon was a standout performer, contributing 14 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, and six steals—a well-rounded effort.
• Taylor Caldwell also had a solid game, adding eight points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

Cal State Fullerton

• In their second road game of the week, the Roadrunners faced Cal State Fullerton.
• The game started off evenly, with neither team scoring for the first two minutes.
• Bakersfield fought hard in the first half, outscoring Fullerton 19-18 in the first quarter and ending the half tied at 33-33.
• The third quarter proved to be Bakersfield's toughest stretch. Although they scored 12 points, Fullerton outscored them by five.
• The Roadrunners put up their highest-scoring quarter in the fourth, registering 23 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Fullerton.
• Dizon once again led the team, finishing with 22 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and one block.
• Caldwell added 14 points and a steal.
