CSUB Sweeps Pair of Games in Honolulu

HONOLULU - The Cal State Bakersfield softball team swept a pair of games at the Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament on Saturday. The Roadrunners downed Western Illinois 5-0 for their fourth shutout of the season before outlasting Utah Tech, 10-6. Under second-year Head Coach Letty Olivarez, CSUB is now 6-5 on the season, surpassing its win total (5) for each of the last two seasons, and here just in Week 2 of the 2025 season.

CSUB looked to ace pitcher Bailee Bustos to shut down the WIU offense one again. While the Leathernecks tallied 10 hits on the game, Bustos took a “bend, don't break” approach, throwing her fourth shutout of the season. The `Runners enjoyed an offensive outburst out of senior Shaylene Fuimaono, who went 3-for-3 in the win over WIU.

Bakersfield closed out the day with a slugfest, defeating Utah Tech 10-6. CSUB's offense came from up and down the lineup with nine different `Runners tallying a hit. Maalia Cherry, Marianna Narvaiz, and Jocelynn Molina each tallied a pair of hits in the game as CSUB took the victory.

The `Runners will wrap up the Spring Fling Tournament on Sunday with one final game, a non-conference tilt with fellow Big West member Hawai'i. First pitch tomorrrow is set for 2 p.m. (PT). CSUB will then return home to host the second annual Welter Classic, Feb. 21-22. Tickets are available at GoRunners.com/Tickets.
