CSUB Athletics Continues to Reset Graduation Success Rate Records

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield Athletics Department learned this week that Roadrunner scholar-athletes once again rose to new heights in terms of academic excellence. In the most recent data released by the NCAA, CSUB’s Athletic Department earned a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 92 percent, smashing the previous mark of 89 percent set two years prior. Not only has Bakersfield’s GSR score increased in four of the last five years a third consecutive year, but since being included in the report as a 2007 cohort, the `Runners have risen by 34 percent.

At CSU Bakersfield, we are thrilled to celebrate our student-athletes, who continue to shine both in the classroom and in our community. Achieving a 92% graduation success rate is a milestone worth cheering for and a reflection of their dedication, resilience, and championship spirit. Our student-athletes continue to inspire us all, proving that with hard work, they can excel academically while rising to the challenges of being an athlete. We are more than proud of their accomplishments!
Andrew Dickenson, Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services

While all of CSUB's teams contributed to the academic success illustrated by the NCAA's reports, special recognitions go to one men’s team (Swim & Dive) and three women’s teams (Swim & Dive, Basketball, and Indoor Volleyball) that continue to graduate future leaders at 100%.

Cal State Bakersfield's 92% rate sits 2% above the national average, putting the `Runners in the spotlight nationwide.

As Fall 2025 finals swiftly approach, the `Runner student-athletes have been furiously preparing to test their knowledge as the semester ends. In Spring 2025, Cal State Bakersfield scholar-athletes posted their 21st-consecutive academic term with a department-wide cumulative GPA higher than a 3.00.

The NCAA Division I Board of Directors created the GSR in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students than the federal graduation rate did. The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation provides a more accurate look at student-athlete success.
